New School Library Opening

Yesterday saw the grand opening of the fantastic new library here at Porters Grange Primary School & Nursery. The school was delighted to welcome children’s authors Nick Butterworth and Rob Biddulph to cut the ribbon together with members of the School Council. The authors stayed in school to run a number of fun and interactive workshops with the children. Later in the day Nick Butterworth held a book signing for parents, children and staff.

The new library represents two years’ work from a passing comment that it would be lovely to transform 2 underused and dilapidated classrooms into a new, large library. This is a fabulous, bespoke space with large wall murals and furniture echoing a woodland theme. With the help of a Big Lottery Grant of £10,000 towards the costs Porters Grange were able to employ specialist designers to transform the vision of Head of School into reality. The school’s librarian, was then faced with the mammoth task of organising and cataloguing in excess of 14,000 books ready for today!

We are delighted that the school is now able to offer its present, and future pupils such a wonderful resource for their learning and also looked forward to welcoming into the library both parents and the wider community of Porters Grange.
