Year 5 Educational Visit to St. Mary’s Church & Priory Park

Year 5 visited St. Mary’s Church and Priory Park as part of their study of the local area. The children had been researching and writing about the origins of Southend and visiting the sites of the original Anglo Saxon settlement and chapel allowed us to further understand the history. Reverend Paul Mackay welcomed us to the church and we were given a tour. We learned all about the features of the church as well as the history. The children enjoyed the tour and we have to thank Rev. Mackay and his team for the warm welcome. After the church, we walked on to Priory Park where we found out some more information about the settlement that was once there as well as the Priory itself. We took this

Gary Collard Online Safety Visit

On Tuesday the 22nd of May, we were lucky to have a second visit from Online Safety expert Gary Collard. Gary – a vastly experienced former police officer – spent the morning delivering an engaging and informative session for parents (across all year groups). The thought provoking session gave parents a real insight into Online Safety as well as the potential dangers and risks in this ever changing technological world. It was fantastic to see so many parents attending and a huge thank you to Gary for delivering a fantastic workshop. The session was followed up by an Online Safety assembly for the children that afternoon to ensure the issue is at the forefront of all stakeholders at Porters G

Royal Wedding Celebrations

The children had great fun celebrating Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding. They whipped their own cream and spread their own jam on very tasty scones! The children then role played the wedding and pretended to be various Members of the Royal Family, using masks. Miss Pell had also brought her wedding dress and veil in ,to try on, and we found that they were very long! The children compared Miss Pell's dress to Meghan Markle's and found lots of differences. A great day was had by all.

EYFS Coffee Morning

Parents attended an EYFS coffee morning on Tuesday. We played some ice breaker games which really sparked conversations and some laughs! The parents brought quiche and cake along for us all to enjoy. A big 'Thank you' to those who attended. Miss Pell will be running another one soon, look out for the dates.

Gemma's Farm

The children had a visit from Gemma’s Farm. The mobile farm set up the animals in our early years garden, the children were fascinated with the wide variety! They could hold the lambs, ferrets and rabbits and petted the pony, sheep and hens. Once each group took turns to visit the animals, the children were able to come and go as they pleased which led to lots of discussion about caring for different animals. Reception and nursery had the opportunity to feed the lamb some milk which then helped some of our children identify the differences and similarities between human babies and lambs! Nursery took great interest in hens laying eggs- some of them were very surprised that eggs didn’t just c
