Billy's Band

During the morning of Friday 9th February,  the children of Porters Grange were treated to a visit from Billy’s Band – a group of fine, professional musicians who visit schools to bring instrumental music to school audiences.  The morning, funded by Arts Council England and organised by Music-on-Sea (Southend’s Music Services), was a joy to behold.  Children from the Nursery setting, all the way through to Year 6 were entertained by the ensemble made up of a pianist, violinist, clarinetist/saxophonist, trumpeter and tuba player as well as their MC; they were encouraged to join in when they could and the children did not disappoint.  The Nursery and Reception children were particularly wonderful and Billy’s Band commented that they were so impressed with their musical understanding and their singing!  Bravo!  Some of the older children had the opportunity to conduct the group whilst the rest of the children offered additional accompaniment and movements.  From Bizet to Mozart, and Incy Wincy to the Pirates of the Caribbean, fun was had by all!  Thanks to Billy’s Band  and the Arts Council England.
